Common Questions Customers ask:

Q. What Process do you use to clean carpet?

A.  We use the "hot water extraction" method, also known as "Real Steam Cleaning".   This process is used by about 90% of all major carpet cleaning companies across the country.   Most major carpet manufacturers recommend hot water extraction as the preferred method of cleaning.   More than 95% of all carpet is cleaned with warm or "hot water extraction".

Q. How long does the carpet take to dry?

A.  The normal drying time is from 4 to 8 hours.

Q. I've heard it's best to put off having your carpet cleaned as long as possible, is this true?

A. No!  In fact, many of the major carpet mills today recommend professional cleaning at least once per year.  The build up of soil in your carpet in combination with foot traffic creates abrasion that breaks down your carpet's fibers.  The higher the traffic in a given area, the more often the carpet will need cleaning.

Q. What is the difference between using the vacuum cleaner and having our carpet "steam cleaned"?

A.  All carpet must be vacuumed regularly (daily or weekly) to remove loose sand and dust that is tracked or blows in through the doors or windows to settle on furnisher and carpet in our homes.   Traffic areas often become soiled from greasy dirt traced in from stepping in oil autos or stepping in food spills from out kitchens.   But when food or drinks are spilled on the carpet, grease has been tracked in from outside, dirt sticks to carpet . . . unsightly spots appear, get dirtier over a period of time as more dirt sticks to spots making them darker and darker.  When the vacuum cleaner can't remove these spots, the carpet must be steam cleaned.

The vacuum cleaner is for removing loose sand and dust and lint.  Lint is created from foot traffic as it walks across the carpet as the sand and dust cutting, wearing, rubbing against the carpet fibers out as if it was small particles of glass.  Have you ever noticed the lint in the vacuum cleaner?   It is carpet fibers.

Vacuum cleaner will not pick up grease that has been tracked in, greasy food or drinks that was dropped on carpet.   Our customers call us when they can't vacuum the spots off their carpet.

Steam cleaning will generally remove all spots and restore a state of cleanness to any carpet.  Steam cleaning is like cleaning a dirty kitchen, a clean kitchen will smell better and steam cleaning carpet will help it smell clean too.

Steam cleaning carpet removes dust, sand, greasy dirty spots, food, drinks pollen, dog and cat dander, germs and viruses, carpet mites, food particles and a host of other contaminates found in carpet.

Q. Should I have my carpet dry cleaned or steam cleaned?

A.  Most major carpet manufacturers now recommend hot water extraction (Steam Cleaning) as the preferred method.   Like the laundering of your clothing,  Steam cleaning is highly effective in removing soil and other contaminants from your carpet.

To most people "dry cleaning" means cleaning without water.  The fact is that most carpet cleaning advertised as "Dry Cleaning" actually uses anywhere from a little, to a lot, of water!   That's because most of the soil in your carpet is water soluble.  For the most part that means better results with a wet cleaning process.  For the majority of residential customers steam cleaning will deliver the most effective results.

"Dry cleaning" cleans the top layer of the carpet and it is difficult to get all of the greasy, sticky, dirty stains that bleed down into the lower sections of your carpet.  The reason Steam Cleaning is the preferred method by carpet manufactures, it can clean where other methods can't get it all.

Q. Does your cleaning process soak the backing of the carpet?

A. No, although our process rinses the carpet deep down, moisture does not penetrate the backing of the carpet.  With our powerful truck mounted powered equipment, your carpet is thoroughly rinsed, but left only damp to the touch.

Q. What is the difference between the small portable units some businesses use to clean carpet, the units we can rent or buy from stores . . . and the big powerful carpet equipment you have mounted in your vans?

A.  The small portable rented from a local store will never get it as clean as carpet cleaner mounted in a van.  The portable units cost a few hundred dollars, have small "one half horse power" electric motors  and the units mounted in vans have "18 horse power" gasoline engines costing around $10,000 or more.  There is a big difference between "one half horse power" portables and "18 horse power" units found mounted in vans.

You can pour hot water in a portable, but 20 or 30 minutes later, it is cold.   The units mounted in van produce a constant supply of  hot steamy water that is recommend by major carpet mills today for professional carpet cleaning, reducing carpet drying time.   Have you ever noticed that dishes washed in a hot steamy dishwasher dry quicker that dishes washed in cold water?

Your carpet will dry faster because the powerful carpet cleaner mounted in van, because it pulls such a high volume of air through it that it pulls out extra water left in your carpet that no small portable (rented or buy from a store) will ever get.  I have rented portables (for personal use) and used commercial portables (professionally for years), none of those portable could ever get it as clean or dry as the unit we have in our van today.

Customer Attitudes toward truck mount units.

We had a lot of new customers call us (when we use to use portables) and ask "Do your use truck mount units?".   When we answer with "no", they would thank us and hang-up.  They wouldn't let us come out and clean their house because they knew the difference, how much cleaner a truck mount unit can clean compared to a portables.

Some use portables because they are cheaper to use, but they can't get the carpet as clean and it will not dry as fast. One problem with rental units is that they use liquid soap that leaves a gummy soapy residue in carpet that attracts dirt and the carpet will get dirtier quicker. Never, never use liquid soap on your carpet, it will leave a stick residue in your carpet to attract dirt and cause your carpet to get dirt quicker.

I have noticed the water coming out of the truck mount unit is dirtier than any portable we have ever use to use.   Also, the carpet gets cleaner, fewer carpet cleaning problems and all jobs dry faster.

Comments from a Carpet Cleaner

Our waving Texas flag Dear Customer:

I have cleaned carpet for nearly 20 years.   Have noticed that lots of people put off cleaning their carpet until it get so dirty that they can stand it any longer.  It will generally have lots of real dirty food spots or dirty walk path areas throughout their home.  Many times it causing a very unpleasant odor in the house or apartment.

We generally change the oil in our cars every 3,000 miles, would we go 6,000 or 9,000 miles in between oil changes?  No, we would not!  The engine wouldn't last as long.  Believe it or not, the cleaner we keep our carpet, the longer it will last too.

I am glad that most families have their their carpet cleaned regularly.

If carpet is exposed to tracked in grease, oily spots from food or sugar drink spills, the carpet becomes sticky and it attracts dirt off of the bottom of our shoes.  The spots become darker and the sand and dirt from our shoes causes the carpet to wear.  Sand and dirt act like small particles of glass that cut up the carpet fibers as we walk on it.  Put some sand in you hands and rub them together and see if it don't hurt your hands.  That is what happens to the sand and dirt in our carpet when we walk on the spots, the pressure from the weight of our feet rubs the sand and dirt against the fibers of the carpet.  Over a period of months or years, we will began to see "wear areas" in the path areas of our homes.

When carpet get very dirty, it is hard to clean.  If we wear a shirt several times (without washing it), it hard to get all of the ground-in stained spots out of the shirt in one washing.  Sometimes, it has to be washed several times before wearing it again.  The same is true with carpet, it is hard to get it clean if it is really dirty.  I have seen carpet that got so dirty that it had to be cleaned several times to get out all of the spots.

Please, let me make a suggestion:   Before I come to your house, if you will vacuum your carpet as best as you can, it will help me do a better job cleaning the carpet in your house.  Because carpet gets so dirty in Rent House, I ask Landlords to vacuum the carpet in rent property.

When you call "Carpet Care" to clean your home, we will do our very best to clean your carpet to the best of our abilities.
